Fairy Pitta and Maritime striped squirrel spotted in Guangdong's Shaoguan

Recently, a Fairy Pitta, often called "the fairy among birds," was spotted in Kongjiang National Wetland Park in Nanxiong, Shaoguan, Guangdong. Named for its striking plumage of eight vibrant colors, this bird adds a vivid splash of life to the wetland landscape.

Nanshan Provincial Nature Reserve in Shixing, Shaoguan, Guangdong, is a typical forest ecosystem featuring diverse habitats such as woodlands and shrublands. These interconnected environments support a wide range of wildlife, including the Maritime striped squirrel.

A member of the Sciuridae family, the Maritime striped squirrel plays a vital ecological role by dispersing seeds and supporting plant growth, while also serving as prey within the food chain. It is listed as a species of significant ecological, scientific, and social value in China.
