Foshan's Jiancun Community holds land-water parade for Beidi Festival 2026

Foshan's Jiancun Community holds land-water parade for Beidi Festival. The Beidi (Northern Emperor) Festival of Jiancun Community in Xiqiao Town has a history of over 700 years and is an intangible cultural heritage of Foshan.

Held on the third day of the third lunar month, it venerates the water god Beidi for peace and prosperity. This year, it took on an entirely new look. On April 19, the event pioneered a "land-water parade."

On land, lion dances and processions distributed "lucky rice" in ancient alleys to deliver blessings. On water, flower barges glided with Cantonese opera melodies flowing from them, painting a three-dimensional scene of "lion dances on shore, opera on water."

This groundbreaking arrangement transformed the ancient ritual into a flowing indigenous landscape for visitors to stroll through and immerse themselves in.

With contemporary creativity, the profound folk custom is revitalized seven centuries after its genesis.
