St. Petersburg press corps visits Guangzhou, exploring ecological and cultural advancements

On September 5, a delegation of Russian mainstream media professionals from St. Petersburg paid a field visit to Guangzhou, focusing on ecological governance and cultural innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The delegation included representatives from Interfax News Agency, St. Petersburg Daily, and St. Petersburg Television.

Smirnov Kirill Igorevich, Editor-in-Chief of St. Petersburg Daily, pointed out, "It is really very interesting all over the world to look for methods of green economy." He emphasized the shared focus between Russia and China on sustainable development, noting, "We have a lot of cases about green economy and clean water; the methods are similar." He found it compelling that "our countries and our cities are, in one way, similar."

Anastasia Yakovleva Andreevna, Anchor and Head of News at St. Petersburg TV Channel 78, highlighted the purpose of the visit: "First, it's about communication—with people, with organizations." As a journalist and director, she plans to produce a documentary about the trip, describing it as "a lifestyle project" that will capture China's cultural essence. She was struck by Guangzhou's unique architecture and the warmth of its people: "People were so good and so friendly. It was wonderful."

Alla Cherednichenko Vladimirovna, a reporter with St. Petersburg Gazette, shared her awe: "Guangzhou is like a scene from a science fiction novel because there are incredible skyscrapers here." She also noted the city's deep reverence for tradition, describing the blend of old and new as "truly impressive."

The delegates toured the Lijiao Water Treatment Plant and the Guangzhou Museum of Art, gaining insights into the region's efforts in environmental management and cultural promotion. The visit reinforced the growing Russian interest in Chinese culture and development, illustrating a shared desire for mutual learning and cross-cultural exchange.
