A thousand years ago, Quanzhou, located on the southeastern coast of China, was hailed as one of the greatest ports in the world and a key starting point of the Maritime Silk Road. From here, ships sailed to over a hundred countries, carrying ceramics, silk, and tea to destinations as far away as the Middle East and Africa. Meanwhile, merchants from across Asia and beyond gathered in Quanzhou, bringing their goods and cultures, and leaving behind architecture and temples.
