Foreign consular delegations explore legal services at Canton Fair

A conference highlighting legal services for foreign-related business was held on April 17 at the Canton Fair Complex, drawing consular officials from 27 countries as well as representatives from foreign chambers of commerce and enterprises.

Officials stated the initiative aims to integrate legal services with the city's exhibition economy and showcase Guangzhou's efforts to build a fair, transparent, and internationally aligned business environment.

Speakers underscored three key strengths: a predictable regulatory framework, accessible legal services, and efficient dispute resolution mechanisms.

According to the Guangzhou Lawyers Association, the city has more than 29,000 practicing lawyers, over 2,500 of whom specialize in foreign-related legal services. Local law firms have expanded globally, supporting cross-border trade and investment activities.

The Guangzhou Arbitration Commission reported handling 877 foreign-related cases last year. It is also promoting digital and AI-powered arbitration services, with an average case processing duration of 57 days.

Participants also toured an on-site legal service center at the Canton Fair, which offers free consultations to international exhibitors and buyers.

Officials noted that Guangzhou will further strengthen its legal framework to support high-level opening up and global trade cooperation.
