No need to travel all the way to Spain! In Foshan, Guangdong, you can experience a unique "LALIGA" football tournament – the 19th edition of Foshan's LALIGA football league. Locally known as "Xijia" because it's held in the Xi'nan Subdistrict, this event has become a cherished tradition.
Who plays in Foshan's LALIGA? As China's fourth-largest industrial city, enterprises and industrial workers form the backbone of the competition. This year, over half of the 40 participating teams represent companies from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Players include factory workers, teachers, lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and more, making Foshan's LALIGA the ultimate stage to showcase their football skills.
Though it's an amateur competition, the level of play is impressively high. This year's event has attracted many foreign players, including former Serbian national team player Zoran Tosic. During the group stage, the 40 teams have contributed 130 remarkable goals, which can be called the "World Cup" of the Greater Bay Area.
Foshan's LALIGA is more than just football! You can also experience traditional intangible cultural heritage performances from across China. On weekend match days, organizers host a rotating lineup of folk performances such as Xinjiang ethnic dances, Gaozhou puppet shows, and Guizhou Miao and Dong cultural displays, transforming the pitch into a vibrant football carnival. And of course, you can taste authentic local Chinese snacks handed out for free at the venue!
Mark your calendars! On August 16, Foshan's LALIGA All-Star Game will feature football legends including Robert Pirès, Javier Saviola, Ludovic Giuly, and Zoran Tošić. Come to Sanshui, Foshan, to witness China's most grassroots football and enjoy the most authentic folk performances!
