Secrets behind legacy of a century-strong overseas Chinese family | My Home in GBA ①

Editor's Note:

Home is the starting point for every person, and the place where emotions return. With the vigorous development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, families here are painting a rich and vibrant picture of life along the surging Pearl River.

Starting today, South launches the series "My Home in GBA," stepping into the lives of families throughout the region to experience their everyday moments and feel the pulse of the Greater Bay Area together.

As the fourth-generation member of a century-old overseas Chinese family, Dr. Allan Rong holds many "cross-disciplinary" titles — but he prefers to be known as a "promoter of chess culture."

"Life is like chess, and chess reflects life." When a South reporter recently visited Dr. Allan Rong's home in Guangzhou, they discovered that this saying, passed down from his father, has become deeply embedded in Rong's very being.

In Rong's view, chess is about "building bridges." Cultural exchange is a form of bridge-building, and so is educational inheritance.

"The Greater Bay Area serves as a bridge connecting China and the rest of the world," he said. Choosing to settle in the Greater Bay Area is both a choice for development and for emotional belonging: "Our roots are here — it's the place where we pass on warmth and family love across generations."
