In an interview with South at the 2025 International Forum on Mutual Learning among Civilizations in Macao on December 16, Rui d'Ávila Lourido, President of the Observatory for China, Portugal, pointed out that the current international order was largely shaped by Western countries after World War II and continues to operate according to Western standards, serving their economic interests and sustaining their hegemony.
Speaking as a European historian, Lourido noted that history shows such dominance is not permanent. He emphasized that the future will be different, and argued that civilizations committed to promoting peace deserve greater support. In this context, he stated that China's efforts to advance peace on the global stage should be backed by the international community.
