On November 24, 2024, the Infinity: Concert for the Scoring Works of Jason Huang took center stage at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. Organized by the Guangdong Musician Association, the event brought together traditional Chinese musicians and the Budapest Scoring Orchestra in a cross-cultural collaboration.
The concert featured 19 original Chinese-style compositions, highlighting Jason Huang's game soundtrack pieces from the past decade.
"It was a beautiful fusion of Western and Eastern cultures. The traditional Chinese instruments were outstanding," remarked a Hungarian audience member after the performance.
Jason Huang, composer and deputy secretary-general of the Guangdong Musician Association, shared his delight with GDToday during an interview in Budapest. “The response from the Hungarian audience exceeded all our expectations. We didn’t even prepare enough encore pieces,” he said.
Huang emphasized the universal nature of music. “Whether in the East or the West, music transcends boundaries. Although we use different instruments, and our scales and modes may differ, the emotions conveyed are universal.” He expressed his hope that his compositions would highlight both the differences and the shared humanity between the two cultures.
“This combination of music is not something you hear every day at the academy,” noted Bálint Sapszon, founder and director of Budapest Scoring.
Sapszon revealed that the Hungarian orchestra is eagerly anticipating a tour in China in the near future. “It will be an extraordinary experience for us as performers, and I’m confident the audience will feel the same,” he said.
