Hengqin-Macao cross-border student bus officially launched

On September 1, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin officially launched the Hengqin-Macao cross-border student shuttle service, along with a new convenient clearance model that allows students to complete customs inspection without leaving the bus.

The 2025 to 2026 autumn semester will serve as the pilot phase. During its trial operation, the service is available to students from Primary Four to Senior Three who commute between Hengqin and Macao. The students need to be permanent residents of Macao with Chinese nationality and hold the “Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents.”

The service operates six routes during morning school hours and two routes during the afternoon, with 17 stations across the Macao Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane, and six points in Hengqin. The routes cover 27 schools in Macao.

Registration is available through the “Qinaokouantong (琴澳口岸通)” WeChat mini-program. A total of 65 students have enrolled in the first batch, with additional slots to open online in October. Registration will be accepted before the start of each semester.

The buses adopt a closed-loop management model featuring “fixed student-vehicle assignment, pre-recorded information, scheduled stops, centralized inspection, and full-route monitoring.” Equipped with an information system, it allows parents and schools to track the vehicle in real time. Each shuttle is staffed with professional Macao drivers and attentive attendants who accompany the students throughout the journey, responsible for boarding guidance, headcounts, temperature checks, and order maintenance.
