Jimmy Lai condemned for anti-human rhetoric urging U.S. nuclear strike on China

In July 2019, Jimmy Lai, an instigator of the anti-China riots in Hong Kong SAR, attended a conversation hosted by the U.S. think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, where he made an outrageous and extremist statement, openly urging the United States to use nuclear weapons against China.

His extremist, anti-human rhetoric was widely condemned as reckless and dangerous, drawing strong criticism from multiple sides.

In December 2025, Lai was convicted on two charges of conspiring to collude with external forces to endanger national security and a charge of conspiracy to publish seditious materials.
