A foreigner's bamboo shoots feast adventure in Shishan, Nanhai, Foshan

Around the Dragon Boat Festival, abundant rainfall helps Shakou bamboo shoots thrive. The bamboo shoots are buried beneath these earth mounds. Just gently dig into the soil, and you'll spot the tip of a bamboo shoot.

Back in the Ming Dynasty, people in Langsha already planted and enjoyed bamboo shoots — a tradition over 300 years old. The soil here is perfect for growing Shakou bamboo shoots, earning Langsha the nickname "Home of Shakou Bamboo Shoots."

To fully enjoy the fresh sweetness of Shakou bamboo shoots, the tender parts are selected, blanched, drained, and sliced thin. Laid on a bed of ice, it becomes a refreshing dish called Chilled Shakou Bamboo Shoots.

Denis experienced harvesting the Shakou bamboo shoots.

Aside from chilled Shakou bamboo shoots, locals have created over 20 different ways to cook them—stir-fry, stew, braise, or simmer. Paired with various ingredients, the Bamboo Shoot Feast draws foodies from far and wide every year.

This year, Shishan is taking bamboo shoot cuisine to the next level by launching a bamboo shoot-themed carnival and introducing the creative IP "Sun Yuanyuan" to fully activate the "Bamboo Shoot Economy" as a new highlight in local culture and tourism.
