Guangdong's Jieyang breaks ground on "Teochew Kinship Hub" to link global community

As a major ancestral home of the Teochew people, Jieyang in Guangdong Province officially launched the "Teochew Kinship Hub" project on December 1. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by overseas Teochew representatives, who attended the 23rd International Teochew Convention.

The Hub, located in the historic core of Jieyang's ancient city, will feature 14 association halls. Each hall will be designed and built by Teochew associations from 14 different countries and regions, serving as spaces for historical exhibitions and community gatherings. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2026.

Community leaders globally expressed their support. Chen Liehao from Cambodia called the initiative a demonstration of shared heritage, while Li Tengjia from the Philippines described it as a cornerstone for cultural continuity. Zhang Yikun from New Zealand stated the Hub will act as a bridge to the future, helping unite the worldwide Teochew population and pass their culture to future generations.
