Guangdong boosts Chaozhou ceramic industry's global reach with cross-border e-commerce

On March 26, Guangdong's Chaozhou, a city famous for its ceramic industry, held an event to bridge enterprises with global markets, with more than 200 brand enterprises participating.

The ceramic industrial cluster in Chaozhou's Chao'an District was selected among the first batch of 10 pilot zones to further develop its significant industrial clusters by applying cross-border e-commerce to expand their international presence and promote industries on the global stage.

Chaozhou has been strengthening its industrial supply chain advantages, cultivating market entities, and improving its ecosystem, leading to the formation of a new model of foreign trade combined with global digital commerce.

In 2024, Chaozhou's total imports and exports reached 28.29 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%. The city's ceramic products, a major pillar industry, saw export values exceed 10 billion yuan, demonstrating strong industrial capabilities.

The event this year featured a cross-border e-commerce ecosystem exhibition, attracting over 30 platforms, sellers, marketing promotion companies, logistics and overseas warehouse providers, and financial payment firms.

Representatives from major CBEC platforms, including Amazon, AliExpress, and Made-in-China.com, shared market trend analyses and platform support plans for ceramic products. They highlighted opportunities in various global markets.

Among them, GigaCloud Technology Inc. proposed an innovative model combining global distribution and overseas warehousing to address challenges in exporting large items, such as sanitary ware, aiming to improve logistics for bulky products.

Platforms like 1688 and Egatee focused on emerging market opportunities for ceramic products, helping enterprises tap into potential markets in Southeast Asia and Africa.

He Jiayang, General Manager of Chaozhou Dongyang Ceramics, shared his experience in transforming a traditional ceramic factory into a cross-border e-commerce business. His insights provided actionable strategies for other businesses in the industry belt.
