Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail trips surpass 10 mln in 2025

As of April 28, 2025, passenger traffic on the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Rail has reached 10.002 million journeys in the year of 2025. A single-day peak of 136,000 trips was recorded on January 31, accelerating the formation of a "one-hour living circle" in the Greater Bay Area.

Passenger flows have been primarily concentrated in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, accounting for 36.3% and 34.1% of the total, respectively. Notably, weekend leisure travel has surged year-on-year by 16.7%.

From Hong Kong, 4.909 million passengers have travelled to the mainland, with a daily high of 79,000 recorded on April 17. Meanwhile, 5.093 million passengers journeyed from the mainland to Hong Kong, with a matching peak of 79,000 on February 2.

Since the beginning of the year, over 25,000 high-speed trains have been operated along the line. During the Spring Festival travel rush, the line handled nearly 4 million passengers in 40 days, marking a 24% increase year-on-year. The Easter holiday (April 18-21) saw 452,000 trips, up 10.6%, including 227,000 mainland travellers heading to Hong Kong, which saw a 19.9% rise.

To further enhance inter-regional connectivity, sleeper train services between Hong Kong and both Beijing and Shanghai were resumed from June 2024, and further upgraded to 350 km/h "Fuxing" train sleeper trains in October. In August 2024, two new trains connected Zhangjiajie West and Hong Kong West Kowloon, passing through tourist destinations like Shaoyang and Fenghuang Ancient Town.

Infrastructural upgrades have also been rolled out along the line. Gate systems now support more efficient document scanning, including the use of Hong Kong and Macao travel permits. New functions at staffed gates now allow Hong Kong and Macao residents without Chinese nationality to register, verify, purchase tickets, and pass through gates more easily.
