Cambodian patient regains ability to walk after multidisciplinary care at Guangdong hospital

A multidisciplinary approach at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital in China has enabled Ly Suddhalay, a Cambodian patient left unable to walk after previous brain tumor treatment, to regain her mobility.

Ly Suddhalay's family expresses their gratitude by sending a thank-you letter to Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital, written in both Khmer and English.

Ly Suddhalay was diagnosed with left frontal glioblastoma, a condition that progressed to severe right-sided hemiparesis and motor dysfunction following surgery and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Through online research, she learned about the strong international medical services at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital and decided to seek treatment in China.

Upon admission, the hospital quickly assembled a multidisciplinary team to develop a personalized treatment plan. Based on her situation, Ly Suddhalay was admitted to the hospital's International Medical Services Center.

On the day of admission, the center completed a comprehensive assessment and arranged one-on-one accompaniment for all necessary examinations, including a brain MRI, all completed within the same day.

A multidisciplinary team (MDT) was promptly convened, bringing together experts from relevant specialties to discuss Ly Suddhalay's case. The team developed an individualized treatment plan combining standardized chemotherapy with targeted therapy.

Throughout her treatment, all medical records—from admission assessments and MDT reports to treatment discussions and discharge instructions—were documented in both Chinese and English, ensuring full transparency and understanding for the patient.

After receiving systematic treatment, Ly Suddhalay showed clinical improvement. Her right limb muscle strength recovered markedly, and she transitioned from being unable to walk to moving independently.

The International Medical Services Center at Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital has established a comprehensive multilingual medical communication system. All attending physicians are proficient in English. The nursing team is trained in medical bilingual terminology, and the ward employs dedicated interpreters for Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Bengali, Russian, Mongolian, Kazakh, and other languages.

The admission process is streamlined for international patients—registration, payment, and bed assignment are completed in one stop using only a passport. Upon discharge, each patient receives a complete set of English medical records, including a summary, diagnosis certificate, and medication instructions, formatted to meet international standards for seamless cross-border care.
