Maoming athletes return from National Games, shift focus to 2026 Provincial Games

Maoming welcomed home its athletes from the 15th National Games on 25 November, with a ceremony held at the new campus of Maoming Sports School. Ten athletes, including Ke Ruolan, Liang Hong, Lu Feiyan, and Chen Jiahao, returned to cheers from teachers and students.

Twelve athletes from Maoming competed at this year's National Games, participating in events such as athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, and rowing. They won one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, along with several top-eight finishes.

Ke Ruolan, a member of the women's 4×400m relay team that won gold, stated that she would dedicate the medal to her hometown and is now preparing for the 2026 Provincial Games. Wrestling silver medallist Liang Hong encouraged younger students to remain committed to their goals.

Maoming will host the 17th Guangdong Provincial Games in 2026. The returned athletes are expected to form the core of the home team as they continue their training for the competition.
