The University of Macau (UM) held a launch ceremony for its 45th-anniversary celebrations on January 11.

As the first Macao higher education institution to extend its operations into the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, UM began construction on its Hengqin campus at the end of 2025, with full operation scheduled for 2029.

Across its dual campuses, UM aims to contribute to establishing Macao and Hengqin as a hub for gathering international high-end talent.

The interim campus site in Hengqin and the research institute conduct activities such as admissions inquiries, research sharing, and alumni exchanges, allowing more people to experience UM's educational characteristics and developmental vitality.

The interim campus site in Hengqin, opened to the public for the first time, attracted not only enthusiastic Macao students and parents but also many visitors who made special trips from other regions, including numerous parents from cities within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), such as Hong Kong, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.

To celebrate its anniversary, UM will organize a series of events throughout the year covering diverse themes such as academic research, cultural exchange, and alumni development, offering rich and varied content.
