Maoming's agricultural exports exceed 138 billion yuan during 14th Five-Year Plan period

Maoming in south China's Guangdong Province actively promoted high-quality agricultural products—including lychees, tilapia and bamboo and wood woven goods—to international markets, achieving a cumulative export value of 138.8 billion yuan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, according to Maoming Customs.

Known as the "Hometown of Lychees," Maoming produces one in every five lychees consumed worldwide. Advances in preservation technology now allow frozen lychees to retain freshness for up to 18 months. With a "green channel" established by Maoming Customs, local inspection time for fresh agricultural products has been reduced by 20 percent, further boosting export efficiency. Over the past five years, Maoming exported 18,000 tonnes of lychees, with export volume rising from 1,002 tonnes in 2021 to 8,183 tonnes in 2025. The fruit is now sold in more than 20 countries and regions.

Tilapia is another standout export. As the "Tilapia Capital of China," Maoming has built a complete farming and processing industry chain. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, cumulative tilapia exports reached 10.26 billion yuan, with an average annual increase of 14.9 percent.

Leveraging its abundant forest resources, Maoming has also developed a strong bamboo and wood products industry. Xinyi, known as the "Hometown of Chinese Bamboo Weaving," produces bamboo and wood handicrafts that are popular in overseas markets. Exports of plant-based woven products totaled 790 million yuan over the same period.
