Shaoguan Lechang's icy landscapes

In Lechang's Pingshi Town, the summit of Mawangdian was covered in frost and ice. Fog and icy conditions were reported in high-elevation areas, with temperatures as low as -2°C at the Liangjiang Shizi Mountain weather station. Icy crystals coated pine needles, creating scenes more typical of northern China.

Qingyuan's frost-covered peaks

Farther east, the Qingyuan mountains also saw frost formations. At Jinshan (Golden Mountain), known for its winter rime ice, a tourism campaign titled "Enjoying Ice and Snow in Lianshan" invited visitors to experience its rare frozen landscapes. The area's cultural tourism department highlighted activities such as ice-breaking ceremonies amid the frosty scenery.

Yunbing Mountain: A cross-border winter destination

The Yunbing Mountain scenic area, straddling the border between Lianzhou City in Guangdong's Qingyuan and Lanshan County in Hunan Province, has been transformed into a winter spectacle with prominent rime ice and frost formations covering its landscapes. This rare southern snowy scenery has become a significant attraction, drawing many tourists, particularly from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, who come to experience the 'snow'.

The cold spell is forecast to continue until around January 23–24, when temperatures are expected to gradually rise.
