As the Dragon Boat Festival coincides with Children's Day this year, the Nanshan International Cultural Exchange & Service Center (NSIC) partnered with Shuiwan Community to host the "Shuiwan Community Dragon Boat Festival & Children's Day Carnival" on May 30 at the Hui Gang Shopping Center. The event offered a unique dual celebration for international and local residents alike.

Ahead of the carnival, the NSIC curated an immersive workshop on the intangible cultural heritage of woven zongzi crafts for five foreign residents. These exquisite, handcrafted ornaments were later presented as special gifts to young participants who completed game challenges at the event, becoming a unique symbol of cultural exchange.

The carnival buzzed with energy as eight themed zones—featuring interactive games, cultural quizzes, exhibition booths, and face painting—drew nearly thirty multicultural families from Germany, France, India, Mexico and beyond.

A boy at the event shared his memories of the Dragon Boat Festival with the reporter. "Last year, I went to the Dashahe Corridor with my family to watch the dragon boat races and cheered for the competitors with all my might!" he recalled.
Another little girl, Lian, painted her impression of Nanshan with colors. "If I were to describe Nanshan with a color, it would be colorful," she said. In her view, the parks, streets, high-rise buildings, and more in Nanshan together form the most colorful picture.

Seamlessly blending traditional Chinese culture with child-friendly activities, the event enriched community life while building bridges between local and international families—showcasing the sub-district's vibrant multicultural ethos. Moving forward, the Zhaoshang Sub-District will advance its vision for an integrated global community where diverse traditions mutually flourish.
