Guangdong, one of China's biggest manufacturing powerhouses, has unveiled a new initiative aimed at helping its fashion brands reach consumers around the world.
The program, titled "Wear Guangdong: Fashion for the World," was launched in Guangzhou on January 12. It brings together local government, major online platforms, and clothing manufacturers to help companies expand beyond China through e-commerce, digital marketing, and cross-border logistics.
At the launch event in Guangzhou's Panyu district, representatives from Alibaba and TikTok shared practical strategies for selling overseas—from building brand visibility online to managing international deliveries. Clothing manufacturers also participated in face-to-face matchmaking sessions with platform operators, designed to turn contacts into concrete business deals.

The initiative is part of Guangdong's broader effort to modernise traditional industries by pairing manufacturing strength with digital tools. Officials say the goal is to help local companies compete not just on price, but on design, quality, and branding—especially in overseas markets.
Guangdong's apparel industry is one of the largest in China, having developed over more than 40 years. The province is home to over 2,500 large-scale garment companies—around 18% of the national total—and is a major producer of womenswear, underwear, homewear, and denim. Key industry clusters are located in cities such as Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Shantou.
Following the Guangzhou launch, the "Wear Guangdong" program will roll out more activities throughout 2026, including seasonal promotions and product showcases. Organisers say the aim is simple: strengthen supply chains, encourage innovation, and help more Guangdong-made fashion products find buyers—both at home and abroad.
