The blooms, which peak from October through April, have turned ordinary infrastructure into floral landmarks, drawing residents and visitors alike to capture the seasonal spectacle.
Often called "blossoming machines" for their long flowering season, bougainvilleas are not true flowers but brightly colored bracts—modified leaves that range from classic red and soft pink to pure white and vibrant orange. Their paper-like texture and vigorous growth have made them a staple of Guangzhou's urban landscape, particularly along elevated walkways and riverfronts.
Photographers recommend shooting from low angles to frame the blossoms against the sky or using railings to create depth. The hour between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. is ideal, as the setting sun casts a golden glow on the petals.
