Elche mayor visits Guangzhou's Nansha to boost China-Spain cooperation

Pablo Ruz Villanueva, mayor of Elche, Spain, led a delegation to visit Nansha District in Guangzhou from April 14 to 16, aiming to deepen cooperation between Nansha district and Elche city. The visit coincided with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's trip to China from April 11 to 15.

The delegation held talks with local authorities on industrial alignment, trade, culture, sports and education. During the visit, they toured the GAC Technology Museum, where they learned about China's advances in new energy vehicles, intelligent driving and green mobility.

At CloudWalk, a Guangzhou-based AI company, the delegation was briefed on cutting-edge applications of computer vision and facial recognition, which are widely used in transport hubs and financial services. They also visited Guangzhou Zhixin Nansha School, where they observed classroom teaching and student activities, and expressed willingness to explore future school partnerships and exchanges.

The delegation praised Nansha's openness and industrial vitality, expressing expectations for deeper cooperation. Local officials said Nansha would continue to expand global partnerships to support the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
