Shantou stitches global textile ambition to be mega hub

Strategically located at the intersection of Gurao, Tongyu, and Guiyu towns, Shantou International Textile Town is situated within China's renowned knitwear manufacturing belt. This 30.5 billion yuan complex aims to serve as a global innovation and logistics hub for the textile industry.

Since its groundbreaking in July 2023, the project has significantly accelerated development timelines. Phase One facilities, including a specialized knitted fabric market and a fully occupied retail zone comprising 500 shops, opened in March 2025. Yang Mushan, the Technical Lead of the project, confirmed that 12 of the 13 construction blocks are advancing concurrently, with three sectors already operational. "We are on track to complete 60% of the total construction by December," he stated.

To date, Shantou International Textile Town has achieved investment milestones exceeding 7.5 billion yuan, with construction progressing across more than 2.7 million square meters, including 850,000 square meters already delivered. The complex has attracted over 20 billion yuan in commitments through 50 textile-related projects and has registered more than 1,000 enterprises. Notably, these investments account for 14.1% of Chaoyang district's total capital expenditure and approximately 3% of Shantou city's economic portfolio.

"This is an innovative industrial town," declared Li Huaqing, General Manager of Shantou Nanxin Textile Industrial Park Construction Co., during the opening ceremony of the China Knitting Fabrics Market on March 19, 2025. He emphasized that Shantou International Textile Town surpasses traditional industrial parks by envisioning a fully integrated urban district that combines manufacturing clusters with comprehensive urban services and green spaces. Upon completion, the hub will host over 2,000 enterprises and 5,000 commercial tenants, directly employing 80,000 workers while creating 200,000 supply-chain jobs, ultimately becoming a modern hub suited for both business and living.
