Yangjiang announces eight specialty agricultural products to share taste of harvest

On October 15, the 2025 Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival in Yangjiang was held in the Yangdong District (main venue).

The event featured five themed exhibition zones, including seafood, gourmet delights, harvest season, intangible cultural heritage, and agricultural services. Visitors strolled through each area, immersing themselves in the joy of harvest, sampling and purchasing local specialties, and taking home the authentic flavors and festive spirit of Yangjiang.

At the event, the Yangjiang Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced the "Eight Treasures of Yangjiang", a selection of products that best represent the city's distinctive features and outstanding quality: Spring Fructus Amomi, Yangchun White Goose, Yangdong Niudali (mountain lotus root), Daba Yizhi (Alpinia oxyphylla), Yangjiang Preserved Black Beans, Chengcun Oysters, Dongshui Mountain Tea, and Pearl Water Chestnuts.

Spring Fructus Amomi is a National Geographical Indication (GI) product. It is known for its health benefits, including nourishing the stomach and kidneys, dispelling coldness and dampness from the body, promoting digestion, regulating Qi, harmonizing the middle jiao, and boosting immunity.

Yangchun White Goose is one of the five famous local goose breeds in Guangdong and the largest white goose variety in China. It is mainly raised in Gangmei Town, Yangchun City, and typically harvested after 100 days. The meat is thick and tender, making it ideal for dishes such as white-cut goose, soup, or roasted goose.

Yangdong Niudali (mountain lotus root) is also a GI product and the only variety of Niudali that has been sent into space by Tiangong-2. Known for its large and starchy roots, yellow skin, sweet flavor, and rich aroma, it boasts remarkable health benefits and is commonly used in nourishing soups or medicinal wines.

Daba Yizhi (Alpinia oxyphylla), another GI product, benefits from the unique climate and geography of Daba Town. It is low in residue, juicy, and moderately spicy, with a pleasant texture and flavor. Traditionally used to make preserved fruit snacks, it is an excellent medicinal and edible product, known to aid digestion, replenish energy, and tonify the kidneys.

Preserved black beans are a traditional fermented soybean product. Rich in nattokinase, they help dissolve blood clots. With their savory aroma and high nutritional value, Yangjiang Preserved Black Beans are listed as a GI product and are a perfect seasoning for steamed fish, ribs, or stir-fries, as well as an excellent ingredient for food processing.

Chengcun Oysters, another GI product, are mainly cultivated in the Yangbian Bay of Chengcun Town, Yangxi County, with a history of over 500 years. Known for their fast growth, large size, rich and tender flesh, and clean, delicious taste, they are celebrated as a seafood delicacy both in China and abroad.

Dongshui Mountain Tea is primarily produced in Dongshui Mountain, Xinxu Town, Yangxi County. It includes green, black, and white teas, with Dongshui black tea recognized as a nationally designated specialty agricultural product in China. Grown in high-altitude valleys at over 500 meters above sea level, with year-round mist and selenium-rich soil, the tea is known for aiding digestion and regulating blood pressure.

Pearl Water Chestnuts, a specialty agricultural product from Zhapuo Town in Hailing District, feature small, pearl-like bulbs with a delicate fragrance and smooth, glutinous texture. They are both flavorful and economically valuable, earning a place as a nationally designated specialty agricultural product in China. Rich in nutrients that support teeth and bone development, they also help metabolize sugars, fats, and proteins, contributing to maintaining the acid-base balance of the body.
