Meizhou Niangjiu, a traditional Hakka yellow wine, was displayed as a featured geographical indication (GI) product at the 7th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Trade Expo and International Geographical Indication Products Trade Expo, held from October 31 to November 2 in Guangzhou. The event took place at the Guangzhou Sino-Singapore Knowledge City International Convention and Exhibition Center, with the wine showcased in the GI Products Trade Pavilion.

Historical records, including the Jiaying County Annals, note that Hakka communities in Meizhou have produced this wine since the Song Dynasty, adapting northern Chinese yellow wine-making methods to local conditions. The wine is brewed from glutinous rice and undergoes a distinctive fire-roasting process, where it is heated in clay urns. This technique sterilizes the liquid while promoting the release of amino acids, resulting in an amber-colored drink with a sweet, mellow flavor.

The exposition, co-hosted by regulatory and governmental bodies from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, focused on intellectual property conversion and the promotion of regional specialties. Including Meizhou Niangjiu (娘酒) in the provincial GI cultivation program aims to support the preservation and commercial development of such traditional products.

The event also highlighted broader efforts to leverage intellectual property in fostering regional development and cultural industries.
