On October 18, the "Savoring Wanqing, Boating into the Future" Water Town Culture Season was launched in Wanqingsha Town, Nansha District, Guangzhou City.
The event features the Pa He Tong (paddling the harvest tub) and a five-person farm boat invitational, attracting participants from across Nansha. Originally used for rice threshing, Pa He Tong has become a local water-town pastime and has evolved into a unique water sport. With each He Tong carrying only one person and having limited depth, the sport demands exceptional balance and coordination.
The event included lion dances, Danjia (fishmen) songs, a charity banquet, and a Danjia-style market showcasing local specialties like Cantonese poached chicken and Xinken lotus root.
Three guava industry experts and entrepreneurs shared key strategies and innovations to develop Wanqingsha Town into an agricultural hub. Wanqingsha Town, the Pearl River Delta's largest guava base, spans 21,000 mu (about 3,460 acres) and produces over 79,000 tons annually, with a value of nearly 300 million yuan. Its guavas are recognized as a nationally renowned and excellent new agricultural product.
