Yunfu, a city in Guangdong Province, has seen robust trade growth with Latin American countries in recent years, with bilateral economic and trade ties accelerating. From January to April 2025, Yunfu's total import and export volume with Latin American countries reached 370 million yuan, marking a 16.2 percent year-on-year increase.
This surge was driven by a 51.3 percent jump in imports, which totaled 280 million yuan, while exports stood at 91.516 million yuan. Key commodities facilitating this exchange include pulp, stone materials, aluminum products, and automotive parts, reflecting the complementary strengths of both regions.
The port of Yunfu has become a critical hub for this thriving trade. In a recent operation, 1,372 tons of wood pulp imported from Latin America underwent seamless customs clearance under the "direct vessel-side extraction" model.
Under the supervision of Yunfu Customs, the cargo was directly transferred to factories without delays, streamlining logistics for local paper manufacturers. This efficiency aligns with Yunfu's expanding paper and stone industries, which increasingly rely on raw material imports from Latin America to meet production demands.
Economic cooperation between Yunfu and Latin American countries extends beyond trade volumes. Both sides are deepening collaboration in natural resources and manufacturing, leveraging their respective advantages to promote sustainable development. Local enterprises have praised Yunfu Customs for actively supporting these efforts.
Customs authorities have introduced facilitation measures, including online consultation platforms and real-time problem-solving channels. For instance, they guided companies to utilize "port combination" and "direct port-to-factory" models, reducing clearance times and enhancing operational efficiency.
The growth in Yunfu's trade with Latin American countries is also attributed to proactive government initiatives. Following recent economic exchange missions by municipal leaders to South America, customs has intensified efforts to assist businesses in exploring overseas markets.
Targeted surveys and policy briefings were conducted for enterprises engaged with Latin American countries, ensuring they benefit from preferential policies. The 51.3 percent surge in pulp imports, totaling 290 million yuan, underscores the effectiveness of these measures.
Looking ahead, Yunfu Customs remains committed to advancing the city's vision as a green international hub. By optimizing facilitation measures and fostering a favorable trade environment, authorities aim to further energize foreign trade dynamics and solidify Yunfu's position as a key player in China-Latin America economic cooperation.
