Guangzhou Nansha's company ships first tropical fish to Canada, marks milestone for Nansha firm

Guangzhou Qingqing Ziran Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. shipped its first batch of tropical ornamental fish to Canada on October 2, marking its inaugural export since securing export registration from Guangzhou Customs earlier this year and a milestone in Nansha's ornamental fish globalization.

Now a leading Guangdong agricultural enterprise covering 33.3 hectares, the company began as a 12-square-meter shop in Guangzhou's Fangcun District. With support from the Nansha District Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau, it relocated to Nansha and rapidly expanded into a modern industrial park with 17,000 aquariums and 3,100 fish ponds.

Designated a "Guangzhou Municipal-level Breeding Farm," the company also serves as a cooperative base of the National Freshwater Aquatic Germplasm Resource Bank for ornamental fish. It now breeds 210 varieties, with 15—including ornamental shrimps (Neocaridina), South American cichlids, and Tanganyikan cichlids—ranking among the world's top in production and sales. The company has completed its second-phase project and plans to launch a third-phase expansion in 2026.

The shipment to Canada comprised 8,061 fish from over 50 species, including globally competitive varieties such as tetra, cichlid, and rainbowfish.

"Clients in Europe, North America, and other markets value a standardized and stable supply. After more than two decades of improving product consistency, our new qualifications position us to better meet these demands," a company representative said.

The firm has strengthened collaboration with South China Agricultural University and marine colleges on disease detection and talent exchange, fostering a synergy between industry, academia, and research.

In April 2025, Nansha's ornamental fish sector was named one of Guangdong's first 1-billion-yuan modern agricultural industrial clusters. With its favorable natural conditions, Nansha is emerging as a national hub for ornamental fish trade.

Nansha hosts 21 ornamental fish farms. In 2024, the district produced 45.06 million fish, generating 229 million yuan in output. Key local players include Guangzhou Yifan Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Nitehler Technology Co., Ltd.
