Unit 3 construction begins at CGN's Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong

China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) held the construction commencement ceremony for Unit 3 of the second phase of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant in Huidong County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, on June 10.

The Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is planned in three phases, ultimately comprising six "Hualong One" reactor units, each with a capacity of one million kilowatts (1,000 MW). The total investment exceeds 120 billion yuan. Units 3 and 4 of the second phase, representing an investment of over 40 billion yuan, received approval from China's State Council in December 2023.

Upon full completion, the Taipingling site will have a total installed capacity exceeding 7,200 MW. It is projected to generate approximately 53 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. This output will reduce annual coal consumption by an estimated 16 million tonnes of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 43 million tonnes.
