The Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has recently reviewed its policy aimed at encouraging Macao young people to work on the island, as part of efforts to improve cross-border employment support.
At a recent consultation meeting, officials from Hengqin's Livelihood Affairs Bureau met with local employers and Macao youth representatives to assess the first year of the Interim Measures to Support the Employment of Macao Youth. Introduced at the end of 2024 and effective from February 2025, the policy offers subsidies for Macao job-seekers, incentives for employers, social security support and funding for skills training.
According to the officials, the measures have helped lower employment costs and attracted a growing number of Macao young people to take up jobs in Hengqin.
Participants at the meeting called for clearer policy communication, simpler application procedures and stronger supporting measures, including better transport links, wider recruitment channels and closer cooperation with Macao universities.
To better support Macao's graduates and employers, the Livelihood Affairs Bureau stated it is taking steps to simplify application processes, adjust eligibility requirements, and increase outreach through internships and campus recruitment. The goal is to make the policy more accessible and effective for all.
