Unmanned Systems Society takes off in Hengqin, pioneering city-level pilot zone

With the goal of establishing Hengqin as China's first city-level demonstration zone for intelligent unmanned systems, the Society of Unmanned Systems Engineers (SUSE) was inaugurated on December 29, following its first plenary meeting in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

More than 200 participants attended the meeting, including academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, representatives from national industry and economic associations, scholars from the Macau University of Science and Technology and the University of Macau, as well as senior engineers and industry leaders from Macao.

Registered in Macao and headquartered in Hengqin, the association aims to support the integrated development of Hengqin and Macao. Its stated goal is to establish Hengqin as the country's first city-scale pilot area for intelligent unmanned systems spanning land, sea, and air, while also developing a model for the low-altitude economy. It also aims to promote new global standards for unmanned systems.

The newly elected chairman of SUSE, Xiang Jinwu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that the association would focus on creating a global collaborative platform for engineers, with particular emphasis on standards development and technical exchange.

Experts at the event mentioned that the integration between Macao and Hengqin offers a unique test ground for intelligent unmanned systems, widely seen as a future strategic industry. Hengqin's diverse application scenarios could support real-world testing, while Macao's international connections may help link innovations to global markets and resources.
