As one of Shenzhen's 10 major cultural facilities for the new era, the Shenzhen Opera House is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, adding a new cultural landmark to the city.

Located in the Dongjiaotou area of Shekou, Nanshan District, the Shenzhen Opera House will be a large-scale cultural complex with a total floor area of approximately 250,000 square meters. It will integrate artistic performances, public services as well as cultural and creative experiences, with a cultural and arts district spanning more than 20,000 square meters. The complex will include a 2,100-seat opera hall, an 1,800-seat concert hall, a 1,000-seat small opera hall and a 500-seat multipurpose theater, accommodating a wide range of artistic performances.

Designed by a team led by Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate Jean Nouvel, the Shenzhen Opera House takes "Light of the Sea" as its central theme, incorporating ocean-inspired elements into its architectural design. Its iconic curved roof resembles a flowing ribbon, giving the coastal landmark a sense of lightness and movement. The project will use a flexible structural system to support its large-span curved roof and follow green, low-carbon construction principles.

Once completed, the Shenzhen Opera House will host world-class opera, dance drama and symphony performances, while also supporting artistic creation and cultural exchanges to promote cultural development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
