Maoming launches "Goose Encounter" project for immersive ecological experiences

On the morning of January 1, Haoxin Lake at the Maoming Open-pit Mine Ecological Park in Guangdong welcomed a striking new sight as grey geese from Heilongjiang flew alongside passenger speedboats, creating a distinctive ecological scene.

The moment marked the launch of the "Yanyu (Goose Encounter) · Flying with Wild Geese" water experience, South China's first ecological cultural tourism project to combine speedboat cruising with close interaction with accompanying geese.

Once an open-pit mine, the area has been transformed through ecological restoration into a vibrant "urban green lung" of clear waters and thriving wildlife. Visitors can cruise the lake, watch geese fly in formation, take part in feeding activities, and capture memorable moments.

Developed through cross-regional cooperation, the project introduces domesticated geese to provide immersive experiences of human–nature harmony. Local authorities plan to further expand eco-cultural tourism around Haoxin Lake, turning ecological assets into sustainable benefits and showcasing the site's transformation from mining area to shared natural habitat.
