Over 230 families reunited through Maoming Xinyi's cross-border search network

More than 230 families have been reunited after Xinyi, Maoming, Guangdong, established a cross-border network to help overseas Chinese trace their roots.

The latest reunion took place in Xinyi's Dingbao Town, where several Malaysian descendants of the Liang family returned to their ancestral home after being separated for around 50 years. Their case was resolved in less than a week through Xinyi's search system.

A key resource is a rare 1964 directory published in Malaysia, which records the birthplaces and family details of early migrants from the region. Local officials and volunteers have also been collecting old letters and genealogy records, while posting clues on social media and collaborating with overseas Chinese groups and media.

Xinyi's system has helped some families reconnect in just hours. The search efforts have also expanded into cultural and business cooperation, including plans in industries such as bird's nest and tea.
