Guangzhou launches trade-in campaign for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan residents and foreign nationals

As the 137th session of the Canton Fair is set to open on April 15, Guangzhou has introduced a comprehensive trade-in campaign targeting residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as foreign nationals. This initiative aims to enhance the consumption experience for overseas guests and highlight the city's appeal as an international consumer hub.

The campaign, running from January 1 to December 31, 2025, offers subsidies across six major categories: automotive trade-ins, home appliances, 3C digital products, electric bicycles, home renovation, and aging-in-place home modifications. Eligible applicants can receive subsidies of up to 20,000 yuan per transaction.

Application process and eligibility

To be qualified, applicants must possess valid identification documents, such as the Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents, or the Foreigner's Permanent Residence ID Card. They must also have a mainland mobile phone number and a bank account within the country.

The application process is streamlined with both online and offline channels. For home appliances and digital products, subsidies can be claimed via the Union Pay app or the Yue Huanxin WeChat mini-program. For automotive trade-ins and electric bicycles, applicants must submit documentation through designated platforms after completing the purchase of a new vehicle and the trade-in of an old vehicle.

This campaign is particularly beneficial for foreign residents and visitors, offering them the opportunity to upgrade their consumer goods while receiving significant financial support. This not only enhances their living experience in Guangzhou but also showcases the city's commitment to integrating international standards into its consumer market.

Trade-ins and subsidies for automotives, home appliances and digital products

In the automotive sector, the campaign offers substantial incentives. For instance, trading in older vehicles for new energy vehicles can yield a subsidy of up to 20,000 yuan, while trading for fuel vehicles can earn up to 15,000 yuan. The subsidies are tiered based on the price of the new vehicle, with higher incentives for electric vehicles.

The campaign also covers trade-ins for home appliances and digital products. Subsidies for energy-efficient appliances can reach up to 20% of the product's final sales price. For digital products like smartphones and tablets, subsidies can cover up to 15% of the final sales price, with a maximum of 500 yuan per item.

For home renovation and aging-in-place modifications, subsidies can cover up to 30% of the product's final sales price, with a cumulative maximum of 10,000 yuan per person. This includes items such as smart home devices, health monitoring equipment, and mobility aids.
