On March 5, BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs) from Guangdong, ushered in the "flash charge era," where its Chairman, Wang Chuanfu, unveiled the second-generation Blade Battery alongside revolutionary flash-charging technology.
This high-tech breakthrough sets a new mass-production record by charging from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, effectively resolving the industry's long-standing hurdles of slow charging and unsatisfactory low-temperature performance.
By integrating these cutting-edge innovations, BYD has successfully concluded the first half of the global electrification race, transitioning the industry from basic adoption to a high-efficiency, seamless reality.
This milestone is a testament to the advanced manufacturing prowess of Guangdong's high-tech sector. Developed over six years of rigorous research and development, the second-generation Blade Battery achieves what was once considered a scientific contradiction: the simultaneous leap in both charging speed and energy density.
At room temperature, the battery can reach a 97% charge in just 9 minutes, making the recharging experience as fast and convenient as traditional refueling. Even in extreme environments as low as -30°C, the system achieves a near-full charge in just 12 minutes—a mere 3-minute difference from standard conditions.
Despite this focus on record-breaking speed, energy density has actually increased by over 5% compared to its predecessor, enabling a staggering driving range of 1,036 kilometers and effectively eliminating range anxiety for long-distance travelers.
To support this hardware leap, BYD has developed a socially responsible infrastructure solution that addresses the limitations of the existing power grid. The newly unveiled flash-charging pile boasts a world-leading single-gun output of 1,500 kW.
This is complemented by the company's "Flash Charge China" strategy, an ambitious plan to establish 20,000 flash-charging stations across the nation by the end of 2026. This network will be highly accessible, with stations located within a 3-kilometer to 5-kilometer radius in most urban areas.
Furthermore, 2,000 high-speed stations will cover nearly one-third of China's major expressway service areas, ensuring that long-distance travel is completely worry-free.
Looking ahead, BYD's vision extends far beyond domestic borders. Wang Chuanfu emphasized that while the wheels of the automotive past may have been driven by foreign technology, the tide of the future is rising from China.
By late 2026, BYD plans to scale these flash-charging stations internationally. This global expansion underscores the strength of Guangdong technologies and products, positioning them as the primary engine for a greener and better world.
