Celebrating Chinese New Year: Dongguan's culinary delights at the upcoming expo

As families prepare to gather for the Chinese New Year on January 28, the tradition of sharing a festive meal takes center stage.

In Dongguan, a city renowned for its rich culinary heritage, local specialties are set to shine at the upcoming China International Food and Ingredients Expo · China International Pre-Made Food Industry Expo from April 18 to 20.

This year, Dongguan's unique dishes, such as Poon Choi, a layered dish symbolizing reunion and abundance, will be featured prominently. Originating from the coastal regions, Poon Choi combines a variety of ingredients—from luxurious abalone to humble vegetables—cooked with diverse techniques, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.

Another highlight is Salt-Baked Chicken, a traditional Guangdong dish known for its juicy, flavorful meat and crispy skin. This dish is not only delicious but also carries auspicious meanings, making it a staple during the New Year celebrations.

Visitors can also look forward to trying Shilong Qixiang Chicken, a dish celebrated for its quality and heritage, as well as Roasted Pigeon, which is famed for its tender meat and crispy skin. Additional local favorites include Bao'an Weikou Pork and Abalone Stewed with Chenpi, showcasing Dongguan's culinary prowess.

With the growing popularity of pre-made dishes, these local specialties promise to make celebrating the New Year both convenient and delightful. The upcoming expos will provide a platform for producers to showcase their offerings, ensuring that everyone can enjoy these exquisite flavors as they usher in the Year of the Snake.
