Guangzhou's Nansha welcomes 15th National Games with upgraded venues and coastal charm

Guangzhou's Nansha District has launched a series of events to welcome China's 15th National Games this November. The activities showcase the district's upgraded sports facilities, a revitalized coastline, and vibrant public life, underscoring its expanding role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Starting November 7, the Nansha Gymnasium will host the Wushu (taolu) competition, followed by mass tennis events at the Nansha International Tennis Center from November 15.

Ahead of the games, the Nansha International Tennis Center expanded into a 32-court complex, featuring hard, clay, and grass surfaces—making it one of the largest and most versatile venues of its kind in the region. With all three professional court types available, the center meets international "Grand Slam" standards.

Nearby, the wave-inspired Nansha Gymnasium has undergone sustainable upgrades, increasing fixed seating to over 6,000 and enhancing lighting, sound, and flooring systems. After the games, the venue will host concerts, exhibitions, and cultural activities.

Parallel to facility upgrades, Nansha has accelerated urban beautification. A 20-kilometer coastal corridor—featuring spacious parks, sandy beaches, and leisure facilities—opened in late September, becoming an instant hit among residents and tourists. "It's exciting to have a beach in Guangzhou that's easy to reach by metro," said Li Hao, a visitor from Panyu.

The district has also introduced pocket parks, upgraded bus stops with smart displays, and transformed spaces beneath bridges into basketball courts, ping-pong zones, and playgrounds.

Nansha is leveraging the National Games to boost local tourism and business. Initiatives such as sports-themed tours and music festivals are attracting visitors beyond the stadiums. Recent events, including CBA games and snooker competitions, have significantly increased shopping mall traffic and hotel bookings.
