Qatar National Day celebrated in Guangzhou

A reception was held in Guangzhou, the capital city of South China's Guangdong Province, to celebrate Qatar National Day. The event brought together guests from consulates general in Guangzhou, as well as businesses and institutions from China and Qatar, on December 5, underscoring the thriving bilateral relations between China and Qatar, particularly between Guangdong and the Gulf state.

Ye Zhenqin, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, highlighted the strong momentum of Guangdong-Qatar cooperation. "Guangdong and Qatar share enormous potential and broad prospects for collaboration across various fields," he stated. He cited robust trade growth, noting that in 2024, the total import and export volume between Guangdong and Qatar reached 17.416 billion yuan, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 22.72%. The positive trend continued into 2025, with bilateral trade from January to August hitting 12.081 billion yuan. He expressed confidence that Guangdong's ongoing development and its role in the Greater Bay Area would unlock further cooperation opportunities with Qatar.

Acting Consul General of Qatar in Guangzhou, Mohammed Al-Qahtani, praised the deep-rooted friendship between Qatar and China. "Under the strategic guidance of our leaders, the Qatar-China strategic partnership has scaled new heights, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples," he said. He emphasized Qatar's commitment to strengthening ties, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and emerging sectors like the digital economy and FinTech, aligning with Qatar's National Vision 2030 and the Belt and Road Initiative.
