Shenzhen International Museum of Art (SIMoA) officially opened to the public on May 30, marking the debut of a new cultural landmark in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Opening with seven major exhibitions, SIMoA welcomes visitors with its striking presentation and diverse collection of artworks.
Highlights of the museum include masterpieces from the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, spanning over five centuries of art history, along with an exhibition on the bronze animal heads of Yuanmingyuan and the material memory of ancient China. New Links, a contemporary art exhibition featuring some 50 works by leading international artists, rounds out the opening lineup.

The exhibition displays the bronze zodiac heads from the Old Summer Palace.
Together, the exhibitions create an extensive dialogue between tradition and the contemporary, Chinese and Western art, as well as artistic creation and technology.
The building itself is designed as part of the artistic experience.
Its main structure is elevated to the second floor, leaving the ground level open to the city. Commercial streets and gallery spaces are interwoven throughout the site, creating a more accessible public art environment.
At the heart of the building is a distinctive "Moon Gate," a design element that evokes the poetic imagery of a bright moon rising over the bay—a reminder that the moon seen from home always shines the brightest.

Since its inception, SIMoA has been developed to international museum standards, while also reflecting Eastern cultural sensibilities and Shenzhen's spirit of innovation.
Within this framework, the museum features internationally standardized exhibition halls, professional collection storage facilities, public art spaces, a theater, an open-air performance venue, a children's art gallery, an academic lecture hall, a library and documentation center, artist studios, and supporting commercial spaces.
These facilities enable the museum to serve a diverse audience—curators, artists, and researchers, as well as families, tourists, and local residents.

Looking ahead, SIMoA will host international exhibitions, academic forums, performance arts programs, and public education activities in the years to come.
Rooted in the Greater Bay Area and connected to the world, SIMoA aims to become a dynamic hub for artistic resources, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and global cultural exchange.
