Construction has officially commenced on the University of Macau's new campus in the Hengqin Guangdong–Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, marking the start of full-scale works following a land handover and foundation-laying ceremony earlier in 2024. A construction commencement ceremony was held at the site at 4:00 pm on December 12.
The project is the flagship development of the second phase of the Macao–Hengqin International Education (University) Town and will make the University of Macau the first higher education institution in Macao to extend its operations into Hengqin. The education town will also host campuses of other institutions from Macao, including Macao Polytechnic University and the Macao University of Tourism.

The new campus will house faculties of medicine, information science and computing, engineering, and design, alongside interdisciplinary innovation and research platforms. It is scheduled for partial operation in 2028, with full completion expected in 2029.
Covering about 375,600 square meters, with a planned gross floor area of approximately 831,000 square meters, the campus will feature a central teaching building, a sports complex, a riverside international exchange center, and residential facilities for students and staff.
