On the morning of May 20, Sun Zhiyang, Mayor of Guangzhou, met with a delegation led by Jens Eskelund, President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, in Guangzhou.
During the meeting, Sun stated that Guangzhou will continue to improve policy support and enhance services for both Chinese and foreign-invested enterprises, aiming to provide a long-term, stable, and predictable development environment to support their business operations in the city.
According to Mayor Sun, Guangzhou places great importance on economic and trade cooperation with the EU countries. At the recently concluded 137th Canton Fair, the Guangzhou delegation witnessed a 29.4% year-on-year increase in intended transaction volume with European partners.
Sun further pointed out that Guangzhou is currently deepening reform and advancing high-level opening-up. The city is proactively aligning with high-standard international economic and trade rules. By promoting international cooperation across industrial and supply chains, Guangzhou is accelerating the development of its "12218" modern industrial system, creating significant opportunities for global enterprises to invest and grow their businesses in the city.
He expressed hope that the chamber would act as a bridge to encourage more EU enterprises to invest in Guangzhou, deepen two-way exchanges and cooperation, and further expand industrial partnerships. He noted that through the certainty of cooperation, both sides could better navigate external uncertainties.
Jens Eskelund and other senior executives of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, along with representatives of member companies such as Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi, DHL Group, and Veolia Group, shared updates on the chamber's activities and the development of their businesses in Guangzhou.
They noted that Guangzhou boasts an excellent business environment and abundant market opportunities, and their confidence in choosing Guangzhou and expanding their presence there remains strong. They intend to better seize opportunities, strengthen exchanges and communication, and actively promote and introduce Guangzhou. Additionally, they will expand investment in areas such as low-carbon energy, circular economy, and modern logistics, thereby achieving mutually beneficial development.
