Dongguan's Songshan Lake sees 50% jump in visitors during Chinese New Year holiday

During the 2026 Chinese New Year holiday, Songshan Lake in Dongguan, south China's Guangdong Province, emerged as a popular leisure destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

By integrating natural landscapes, traditional culture, and modern experiences, Songshan Lake created a vibrant cultural and tourism scene.

The holiday period saw strong growth in visitor numbers. Tourist flow at major attractions increased by more than 50% year-on-year, while Songshan Lake's five main business districts welcomed over one million visitors. Public transportation services handled more than 160,000 passengers.

The golden trumpet trees became a key highlight, attracting nearly 240,000 visitors, up 52.7% from the previous year. Visitors enjoyed flower-viewing and newly introduced low-altitude sightseeing experiences, offering aerial views of the landscape. The attraction has become a signature seasonal feature of Songshan Lake.

Centered on the carnival theme, Songshan Lake hosted a series of cultural performances and interactive events, blending intangible cultural heritage displays with contemporary leisure activities. Technology-driven activities, including low-altitude tourism projects, further enriched the visitors' experience.

Songshan Lake's commercial areas supported by themed holiday events and promotional campaigns, also attracted visitors, contributing to robust consumer activity throughout the holiday.

To accommodate peak travel demand, Songshan Lake implemented enhanced transport services, ensuring visitors a smooth, safe and enjoyable holiday experience.

With the golden trumpet trees still in full bloom and promotional activities ongoing, Songshan Lake continues to attract visitors. The region plans to further develop its cultural and tourism offerings, strengthening its position as a leading leisure destination in the Greater Bay Area.
