China Southern Air Logistics has recently launched the Chinese mainland's first cargo route operated via a polar flight path, marking a new phase in its North America network.

The inaugural flight, a Boeing 777 freighter with the flight number being CZ2544, departed from New York City on April 21 bound for Guangzhou. The aircraft, capable of carrying up to 105 tonnes, is designed for long-haul cargo operations.

Polar routes go over the Arctic, which are shorter than the usual paths across the Pacific. This new route is expected to save about 40 minutes of flying time and consume less fuel, helping cut emissions.

According to the airline, the route would improve the efficiency of inbound shipments such as industrial materials, key components, and consumer goods into southern China, while also enhancing outbound logistics capacity. It is expected to strengthen Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's supply chains and boost the global reach of manufacturers based in the region.
