The South Zhanjiang Channel was launched on December 25 in the coastal city of Zhanjiang in southern China. The channel will be jointly developed by Zhanjiang City and Nanfang Media Group (Nanfang Daily) to provide international viewers with a clearer and more comprehensive look at the city.

Zhanjiang is located at the southernmost tip of the Chinese mainland, near several major economic zones, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Hainan Free Trade Port, and the New Western Land-Sea Corridor. Historically, it has been an important port along the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
Officials stated that the channel will highlight the city's modern industries—locally termed the "four greens and one blue," referring to green steel, green chemicals, green energy, green food, and the marine economy. Zhanjiang is also promoting its environmental initiatives as the "City of Mangroves."

Cultural coverage will include Leizhou opera, the human-dragon dance, lion dancing, and traditional float parades. The platform will also report on local infrastructure, including the city's international port and transport links by rail and air.
