Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport officially opened its fourth runway on January 23. With the landing of flight CZ6731 on the new runway at 8:10 am, the airport has become the first and only four-runway airport in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The new runway is 3,400 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a flight zone index of 4E, capable of accommodating the takeoff and landing of large E-category aircraft.
Following the opening of the fourth runway, the airport will add 4 square kilometers of area, with the flight zone area estimated to reach 18.4 square kilometers, with the longest north-south span of about 6 kilometers and the east-west span changing from 3 kilometers to 3.9 kilometers.
With the new runway opened, the airport claims that it will provide better support for increasing the airport's peak-hour capacity, save time for aircraft waiting outside the runway, further improve the normalcy of the airport's flights, and upgrade the travel experience for passengers.
