Visitors from Pacific Island countries experience smart fish farming in Nansha, Guangzhou

From September 26 to 30, a delegation of 19 government officials, technical experts, and company representatives from Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga visited Nansha, Guangzhou, to explore the local full aquaculture industry chain.

They examined how automatic feeding systems optimize daily feed, how ponds are stocked efficiently, and where value-added aquatic products are exported. Nansha's ecological aquaculture, fisheries big data applications, advanced product processing, and "one-stop" cold-chain services drew widespread praise from the visitors.

The visit was part of a training program on aquatic product storage and processing for Pacific Island countries, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center. The program combined expert lectures with on-site visits to showcase China's aquatic product development, cold-chain logistics, and advanced storage and processing technologies.

"Wow!" echoed through the Chengyi Aquaculture Base exhibition hall as Tang Rong, the company's technical director, tapped a tablet to display a live panoramic view of distant ponds and equipment. With a single click, the aerator sprang to life, demonstrating the efficiency of smart fish farming. Visitors, impressed by the precise operation, eagerly recorded the moment on their phones.

At the pond, the automatic feeder garnered close attention, prompting questions about its operation and results. A fisheries official from Tonga noted, "We still rely on manual aquaculture, and bringing in automatic feeding is a key step toward a digital, smart future." At the "Blue Fishing Port" project site, participants observed the full processing flow and were impressed by the orderly, efficient operations. One official remarked, "Everything is well organized!"

Participants also toured Nansha's "one-stop" cold-chain supply services, as well as aquatic seed breeding and production projects.
