Guangzhou's Nansha North Station sees 35% passenger surge after schedule upgrade

Guangzhou's Nansha North Station implemented an optimized train schedule on January 26, increasing daily services to 55–59 trains—nearly double the previous level—and reducing peak-hour intervals to 10 minutes.

The adjustment enhances commuting efficiency between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, while enabling direct high-speed rail services to cities including Chengdu, Zhangjiajie, and Wuhan. Passenger arrivals and departures rose by about 35 percent year on year on the first day, according to ticket pre-sales data.

The upgrade, developed in response to passenger feedback following the fourth-quarter 2025 timetable adjustment, is part of preparations for the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush. To support the new schedule, the station has added security checks and manual inspection channels, adjusted ticket-checking times for consecutive same-direction trains, and deployed additional staff and resources for high-volume services.

The 2026 railway Spring Festival travel rush will run from February 2 to March 13. In response to overlapping student and homebound travel peaks, Nansha North Station will further enhance services, including volunteer assistance, to ensure safe and smooth passenger journeys.
